Autogenics (AT) is a deep relaxation technique that is taught either individually or in small groups. Based on the work of German neurologist Johannes Schultz in the early 20th century, the main technique consists of 6 phrases that mirror the physiological changes that take place as we move into a deep state of relaxation. We learn to switch off from external stress, let go of internal stress and allow our body systems and mind to relax and revitalize. It is a mindfulness practice in which we learn to observe with complete equanimity.
As well as being a simple and effective stress management technique AT can also be a catalyst for greater self awareness and inner transformation.
